Or, you can make popcorn in a stovetop popper. At a glance, the vessel may look like a simple deep-bottomed pan. But a popper is engineered with a paddle in the handle or the lid to control a pair of arms that rotate inside the vessel to move the corns around.
In the absence of such a popper – which is also quite inexpensive – you can use a regular deep vessel. You’ll have to use a spatula to toss the corn kernels and shake the vessel to agitate them so that all the grains get heated evenly and can pop. Here’s the elementary recipe –
